AUGMENT SELECTION (BASIC)

What are Augments?

Augments are cards that are given to you at 3 different points in the game that enhance your gameplay!

Augments can be split into 3 different categories:

Combat augments

Combat augments are augments that directly improve your team’s combat strength. This may come in the form of offense or defense, but these augments give immediate stat buffs to your team.

Combat caster and Keepers are considered defensive combat augments because your team gains defensive shields while fighting.

Jeweled Lotus is considered an offensive combat augment because it enables your team’s abilities to critically strike and gives you ramping critical chance.

Combat augments are important because they are potentially game-changing buffs to your teams!

Here’s a list of other combat augments:

Utility augments

Utility augments are augments that give gold, exp and rerolls.

For example, Raining Gold gives gold, Patient Study gives EXP, and Prismatic Ticket gives Shop rerolls.

Utility augments are especially good at the beginning of the game, because they give you more resources to access your 3* units quicker or higher quality units faster.

Here’s some other utility augments:

Trait specific augments

Trait augments describe augments that give you Emblems and trait specific buffs.

How good these augments are depends on which traits are meta and powerful at the current patch.

For example, Eldritch Crown gives you an Eldritch Emblem and a Bloodthirster. This can lead you to hit 5 and 7 Eldritch much faster, which dramatically improves your early and mid-game strength.

If you couple the Eldritch Crown with an Eldritch specific buff like School Mascot, that allows  you to buff up your Eldritch Summon with items!

Here’s some other trait augments:

Faerie Crest, Chrono Crest, Frost Crest, Witchcraft Crown, Scholar Crown etc. (basically all Crests and Crowns)

Bee-st Friends, Cauterize, Defensive Arts, Fast Forward, etc.

Hero Augments

Hero augments are augments that turn lower cost utility units into gigacarries. Because you are incentivized to play them, they will oftentimes be very strong once you hit their 3* versions.

For example, Nunu, when played without a Hero Augment, is just a regular early game tank. But with the Sweet Tooth augment, he becomes a scaling carry monster who eats anything in his path!

Here’s a list of other hero augments:

Deja Vu, Molten Caramel, Witchy Wallops, High Horsepower, etc.

Hero augments are generally at least average to top tier in terms of comp viability!

Miscellaneous augments:

These are augments that dont really fall into any of 3 main categories, such as item augments. You could say these fall under combat because items equal combat, but I’ve decided to put them under miscellaneous for now.

Putting it All Together

You generally want to take augments that fit your playstyle, so if you’re a reroll type player or you’re very comfortable with a certain line, you may prefer utility and trait augments.

If  you’re a flexible player, you can never go wrong with combat augments and certain utility augments.

If you’re a player who prefers to play around high cost units like 5 costs, utility augments are prioritized because they help you reach higher levels faster.
