STRONGEST BOARD
What is “strongest board”? You might have heard streamers say it, but what does it even mean? Strongest board is just that, playing your strongest board every round of the game – or at least in rounds you want to win. Most of the time playing strongest board is the most difficult in Stage 2 and 3, as early/mid game boards tend to vary a lot from game to game. Not even Challenger players have perfected this concept.
To really understand strongest board, you NEED to know most early and midgame boards well. If you don’t, you’ll never actually have the foundation to decide what actually is your best board.
For examples of strong early and mid game boards, check out my page here:
Figure out which synergies benefit your team the most at the current point in the game
In this example, I’m debating between playing Rumble instead of Ezreal for Vanguard, or playing Tristana instead of Galio for Blaster. I ended up deciding on staying with my current board because I thought Portal offered more value for my overall team than the other options, so I stuck with my team.
Put in units that balance your weaknesses
Here I have a 7th slot open and have no Ahri available to slot in Arcana. I don’t want to roll because I have only Swain pair to upgrade and I’m trying to level to 8/9 for a stronger late game board. I’m debating between putting in Wukong, Varus or a 2nd Swain but I ultimately choose to put in Varus because my team has a decent amount of tankiness but lacks damage here, and he does offer a decent amount of burst.
A 2* Unit is a 2* Unit
In this example I choose to play a 2* Warwick over a 1* Poppy. Even though Poppy would unlock Bastion, a 2* Warwick is superior for my team due to having far better tanking capability, so even though I am losing a synergy, a Warwick 2* with a potential Sunfire Cape clears Poppy in terms of building strongest board.
Sometimes Unit Quality > Everything Else
Here I have an open 5th slot, and I choose to play Rakan over anything else because while I have a lot of damage, I am lacking a bit in frontline so Rakan can offer more than an Ashe 2* or a Wukong for my team here, even without traits. Even if I had a Honeymancy unit in my shop, I would still choose to play Rakan.
